Telecom Regulatory Authority of India launched a new portal that allows mobile consumers across India to check the amount of call drops and network coverage and the call quality. The Chairman of TRAI, RS Sharma said that the consumers at a particular location can see the total towers around the area and the Quality of Service (QoS) in a particular area. Along with a transparent network, the Consumers can check on the call drops that face, he added. The data on call drops can now be digitally received.
The QoS portal is expected to enable consumers to analyse the services provided by different networks. The massive problem of call drops and poor quality of telecom services had infuriated a number of consumers in the country. After the persistent discontent amongst the users, the telecom regulatory body ensured an overhaul of the service quality provided by telecom companies.
TRAI had earlier attempted to ask telecom companies to compensate users for its incessant call drops. However, the Supreme Court had rejected the regulation calling it “arbitrary, unreasonable and non-transparent.” TRAI had also suggested an ombudsman for a fast resolution on the increasing public complaints on call drops and poor quality of service.
